Modern Cabin
Modern Forest Cabin is designed as a simple home that’s intended to be built on a property surrounded by nature and full of privacy. This 1,200 square foot 1 bedroom 1 bathroom house has tall floor to ceiling windows with bird-safe micro frits that look out towards the forest outside. It has cozy spaces that go from common places to gather to more private areas like the bathroom and bedroom. Modern Forest Cabin is designed to be a vacation home where you can escape the noise of a city and be surrounded by nature.
The cabin is designed with a simple procession of spaces that goes from louder common spaces to quiet private ones. At the entrance, there’s an outdoor patio with a sofa and swing where people can enjoy time outside. As soon as we enter, there’s a beautiful wood finish at the floors and walls with a bright white painted ceiling. On both the left and right sides of the house, there are tall floor to ceiling windows that look out towards the forest. During sunny days, there’s a dual roller blind system that can be lowered to either filter the sunlight or completely block it out with the blackout blinds.
Directly ahead of the entrance is the living room with a comfortable sofa with a chaise. It faces towards a central two sided fire place with a beautiful black stone finish. This is a great place to lounge and watch a movie or to enjoy the views outside. On the opposite side of the fireplace, there’s a kitchen with a center island that serves as a prep area and dining table. It has seats for 3 people, but the cabin is intended to be a private getaway for a couple.
The kitchen has an efficient layout and a large refrigerator so we can store enough food to last a few weeks. It shares the two sided fireplace with the living room on the opposite side. The bathroom is located behind the kitchen wall and it has a simple layout with a toilet, floating vanity, mirror, rainshower with shower wand, and a large soaker tub facing out of the frosted glass window. Since this cabin is located in a forest, the window can be clear to take in the beautiful views outside, but if privacy is a concern, the frosted glass will let in natural light during the day while blocking views into the room.
Adjacent to the bathroom is the utility room that has all the systems for the house and a washer/dryer combo unit. At the furthest end of the cabin is the bedroom that’s surrounded by views of the forest. It has space for a king size bed, lounge chair, and an office where we can catch up on some work while enjoying time in this vacation home.
